RESEARCH
Mallory, We can do anything, 2015
[I] chose to discuss the gender issue of only men can fix things as the original picture depicts, but changed it to woman can fix anything just as well as a man can.
I chose to change Wim Delvoye's Study #147 and make it combine with the "We Can Do it!" war propaganda poster. I chose to combine these two because Delvoye's artwork reminded of that specific artwork, just with a man showing off his work instead. So, the message I tried to convey was that now in today's society women are more likely to compete with men - instead of just falling below them as inferiors.
INDIVIDUAL ART MAKING
I do think the research and discussions help understand gender issues. For instance, in class I was intrigued to see guys changing pictures to still have masculine dominance, yet claiming there are no issues with gender roles in today's society.
