Historical Background:
The artist is Muslim and she was fighting against any insidious social and cultural pressures. She is doing this because she feeling that females are being used and abused in her culture.
Representation of Gender Role:
She is clearly a female that is trying to say if I was in your shoes this it was I would do because you are doing it to women everywhere.
RESEARCH
Jp, Who Stays and Raises?, 2015
I choose the issue of women expected to quit their jobs and stay home to raise the kids. But it could be the man to stay home and do the work.
I choose Barbara Kruger (Pro-life the unborn, Pro-death for the born) because the issue goes hand in hand with prolife debates. But takes it to the next step in the relationship.
The work models hers because the image uses a lot of red and the text is veg. You have to look closely and find what is going on. The issue is there and is present, you just have to look for it and determine what the issue is. I wasn’t sure how to make it white and black but if I could I would put the images in black and white then keep the red text.
INDIVIDUAL ART MAKING
I think [the art practices] help[] you think of the issues that are out there. It could bring you into the issue and it is a great way to see what goes on around this topic. The process is hard because there are so many options out there and you have to get the truth before you can make a judgement or statement about what is going on in that field. It did help to form an option or help you find what you believe/support.
