Talking Across Differences: A Critical Arts-based Intersectional Healing Justice Workshop for International Students
WORKSHOP OVERVIEW
This workshop teaches basic social justice concepts and advocacy around cultural, gender, and racial differences through exploration in the arts. Participants engage in hands-on learning through storytelling, reflective writing, and other art mediums. We use the arts to emphasize concepts learned in dialogue and reflection that culminate in individual art pieces to express the thoughts and feelings of participants. Our framework draws on healing justice and intersectionality to engage participants in discussions about their identities, cultures, and experiences in the US. We emphasize collaborative learning among students through intercultural dialogue, nurturing individual and collective voice, and fostering communication across differences.
